How it Works

*The 2010 deadline has now passed*

If you are planning to enter the competition, here’s what to expect:

Stage 1 – entry
To apply for the 2010 competition, you’ll need to complete the application form. Once we receive your application, we’ll contact you to confirm your eligibility.

The earlier you apply, the more time you’ll have to make best use of the support available to develop your business plan.

2010 competition entry deadline: 26 March 2010*

Stage 2 – development of business plan
We’ll ask all eligible entrants to prepare business plans to submit to the judges. Our professional service providers will be on hand to offer free advice and support throughout the competition, both on request and via the organised event programme.

You can decide the format of the business plan – just make sure it’s as succinct and clear as possible. See the evaluation criteria for guidance on how we evaluate the business plans.

Business plan submission deadline: 30 April 2010

Stage 3 – shortlisting of finalists
A preliminary judging panel will independently assess the entries to agree a shortlist of 6-8 applicants. Only those shortlisted will to go forward to the final stage.

Stage 4 – final judging and presentations
If you’re one of the shortlisted applicants, we’ll ask you to give a brief presentation to the judging panel as part of the final decision making process.

Brief presentation: 31 May 2010

Stage 5 – Awards Dinner, 24 June 2010
The winner and two runners-up will be announced at the annual Technium awards ceremony and dinner to be held in Wales on 24 June 2010 at the Swansea Marriott. All entrants will be invited to the event to celebrate their participation.

As the event is attended by many science and technology businesses, including the Technium Challenge international finalists and other Technium companies, it provides a great networking opportunity.

*Applicants are encouraged to apply by the end of March 2010 although late applications will be accepted up to the deadline for submission of business plans at the end of April 2010.  Late applicants will not benefit from the support available for preparation of business plans.
