Swansea University

As a key partner, Swansea University has established a strong link with Technium Swansea. Several academic departments have also, over the years, developed and built partnerships, joint collaborations and research projects with Technium companies, including the following departments:

  • Power Electronic
  • Computer Science
  • Engineering (Aerospace, Chemical and Biological Process, Civil, Electrical and Electronic, Information, Communication, Computation Technology (ICCT), Materials and Mechanical Engineering)
  • Life sciences and the clinical school
  • Knowledge Exploitation Centre (KEC)

    Swansea University has set up the Knowledge Exploitation Centre to co-ordinate and enhance the implementation of the University's 'Third Mission' (non-core teaching and research activities).

    The Knowledge Exploitation Centre acts as a strategic focal point of economic development in the region. By interacting with a myriad of partners, the Centre aims to become the recognised regional hub for partnership and joint development in the areas of:

  • Entrepreneurship (KEF Scholarship)
  • Pre-Commercialisation of Intellectual Property
  • Research & Development
  • Skills Development
  • Technology Transfer & Innovation
  • Within the University the KEC co-ordinates the activities of:

  • The Knowledge Exploitation Fund - www.kef-wales.org.uk
  • CETIC - a joint Welsh Development Agency and KEF funded initiative. It was established to provide, local, national and international companies with world-class scientific, technical and research resources within Welsh Higher Education institutions - www.ceticwales.com
  • Knowledge Transfer Partnerships
    The DTI funded Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) is a key stimulator of industry-academia links.  
  • UNILINKS  - Collaboration with the local business community to achieve and form sustainable partnerships with both private and public sector organisations and to assist the University in sharing its world-class knowledge with industry.
  • Swansea Institute of Higher Education

    The Institute is an Associated College of the University of Wales and an approved centre for BTEC Higher National and NVQ programmes. Links have been established with:

  • Computer modelling
  • Faculty of Applied Design and Engineering (The faculty contains the schools of Automotive Engineering, Computer and Internet Technology, Computing, Digital Media, Industrial Design, Logistics, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering)
  • Digital Media Centre
